A unidisciplinary (just one discipline such as medications) treatment approach may not address all the aspects of a person's chronic pain. Ideally, chronic pain treatment should be multidisciplinary. A chronic pain management plan should include not just medications but also physical therapies and psychological therapies. Self-management approaches are also important to help a person take control of his or her pain.
